1. James Badham lives in Santa Barbara, CA, where he is a full-time environmental-science writer at the University of California. “It’s fascinating to see the amount of ingenuity that is being unleashed in attempting to address climate change,” he says of the feature he wrote for this issue. “Cars and buildings are a beginning, but it’s going to take a worldwide effort to get the job done.” 2. Kathleen Beckett enjoyed an inside view of the fashion and beauty worlds during her many years on staff at the top style magazines in the United States: Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and Vogue, where she wrote her own column, FYI: Inside Style. Beckett’s articles have appeared in the International Herald Tribune, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and the London Sunday Times. Beckett was also a long-time Contributing Editor to Elle. She was, in fact, interviewing a designer for Elle when she realized there might be men and women who would enjoy the same inner access that she did as a journalist. That experience laid the groundwork for Friends of Fashion, the membership club that raises funds for the fashion industry with private parties with top designers. Beckett, who holds a BA from Wellesley and MA from Stanford, is also launching the first series of fashion events for the Harvard Club, where she is a member with her husband, the children’s book author Steven Kroll. 3. Daniella Brodsky is the author of the novels Fear of Driving, One Trick Pony, The Velvet Rope Diaries, Princess of Park Avenue and Diary of a Working Girl, and of the guidebook series The Girl’s Guide to New York Nightlife; she is also a freelance magazine journalist and founder of fashion retailer www.sylviedee.com. Brodsky has been featured on “Good Day New York,” “The WB Morning News” and NPR, and in The New York Times, The New York Post and The Hartford Courant. 4. Christopher Percy Collier is an award-winning writer and photographer who specializes in nature and adventure travel. His work has been published in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, National Geographic Adventure, National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, Outside, Field & Stream, Smithsonian, Fast Company and many others. He lives in Connecticut’s Farmington River Valley with his wife and two daughters. Collier is an avid wildlife watcher, backcountry canoeist and hiker who has explored countless natural areas throughout North America and beyond. Living by the ocean in Malibu, CA, and Waiuku, New Zealand, Kyle Roderick specializes in health, culinary, ecotravel, green design and ecologically sustainable topics. She is an author and photo editor of six books. Her journalism has appeared in Vanity Fair, The Los Angeles Times, Air New Zealand, Glamour, American Eagle Latitudes and United Hemispheres. In between writing projects, she raises chickens and refines her repertoire of gourmet, affordable organic family fare.
