Welcome to Hyatt In this issue of Destination Hyatt, we take you on an exciting journey, stopping along the way to reflect a bit on taste, technology, travel and talent in sports and design. Well-known for their ability to liven up the blandest of meals, the super seven of the spice world—cinnamon, ginger, oregano, red peppers, rosemary, thyme and turmeric— help enhance your body’s ability to fight off disease as well. Healthy and tasty: definitely a winning combination. Blending taste and technology, molecular gastronomy is adding an element of surprise to meals. Licorice-encased salmon? Frying with vodka? Hydrogen milkshakes? The possibilities are endless. Technology is also being put to good use to save our planet for future generations. The need for alternative sources of energy to power our world is one of the main concerns facing the world today. While much of the world is looking toward the future, some corners of our planet look and feel as though they’ve been frozen in time. Patagonia is one such place. Covering much of South America’s southern tip, this enchanting locale is becoming a mainstream destination for travelers, who marvel at the region’s impressive landscape of forests, mountains, lakes and glaciers. Patagonia is slowly gaining global appeal, but professional sports have taken giant leaps towards globalization. The most popular athletes are becoming ever so accessible to the sport-loving masses, while professional leagues like the NBA and the MLS are rapidly expanding their international reach. Lastly, the talented designers that came together at Cranbrook Academy during the 1940s and ‘50s would go on to change the face of modern design, focusing on a specific medium: the chair. Take a look at the mesmerizing functional art that was created. I hope you enjoy reading this issue. Sincerely, Rosa Rojas Managing Editor
